2019: Watch your tongue, SDP warns Oshiomhole

Gabam was reacting to Oshiomhole’s verbal attack on the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), a group of 39 parties which a fortnight ago, signed a Memorandum of Understanding primarily to unseat the APC in 2019.

The immediate past Edo governor had questioned the rationale in the grand coalition between the SDP and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and came short of accusing the former of returning to its vomit, as most SDP stakeholders were formally members of the PDP.

But Gabam who spoke while presenting a certificate of return to Senator Iyiola Omisore for emerging the party’s governorship candidate in the Osun state governorship election fixed for September 22, said Oshiomhole must realise that no party has a monopoly of vulgar utterances.

“The Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole should appreciate one fact: there is a difference between being a labour leader and a national chairman of a political party. “He should also know that nobody has a monopoly of vulgarism. Some of us are career politicians and we have the capacity to balance that kind of rhetoric. We are prepared to take him inch by inch on every issue.

We have the capacity,” he said. He also tasked the APC boss to save his energy until the commencement of intensive campaign so as not to overheat the polity ahead of the elections. “We are yet to commence full scale campaigns and we appeal that they should not take a space for a major battle. As career politicians, we are not afraid of battles at all,” he added.

On his part, Omisore promised to deliver Osun State to the party, even as he expressed his readiness to wrest power from the ruling APC in the state.

“We’ve began the journey of emancipation of the people of Osun who have been held in bondage in the past eight years of the APC government ” he said. He chided the Governor Rauf Aregbesola-led government for owing workers, backlog of salaries, adding that his stewardship would mark “the end of the suffering of our people.”
