Mr. Idris had said that social media was a “Technology available to those that are criminally minded and we have to be careful the way we respond to some of these clamoring”.

A statement frowned by many social media users, who poured out their grievances through various individual social media handle.

But reacting on the said statement, Police through its Public relations officer, Ag. DCP Jimoh Moshood said, “We wish to categorically state that IGP did not mean that “Social Media is a technology available to those that are ‘criminal minded’ but that social media can also be used by criminal minded persons and people should be wary and careful of this.

The Force hereby enjoins all social media practitioners and users to disregard and discountenance the story. The Nigeria Police Force is social media friendly and will continue to partner with Social Media practitioners and Users in ensuring adequate protection of Life and Property across the Country”.
